Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community,

At Pea Ridge Schools, we take the safety and well-being of our students and staff very seriously. With the report of the first presumptive case of COVID-19 in the state of Arkansas, we understand parents’ and community concerns and want to provide as much information as possible. We will be providing a link on the district website to post the most current information we have.

As we plan for the possibility of a school closure due to an outbreak of COVID-19, the district requested to amend its current Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan with the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. The amendment requested the number of days to be extended from 5 to 10 and for the AMI days, to begin with, the first missed day of instruction due to COVID-19. Both requests were approved. You can find information for all grade levels by clicking here.

With Spring Break approaching, we realize many have travel plans. Governor Hutchinson declared a public health emergency and is urging everyone to re-think every out-of-state-trip and consider the following questions:

  • Are you traveling to a high-risk country?
  • Will you be with large gatherings of people from unknown regions?
  • Will you come into contact with the elderly upon return?
  • Are you driving or using mass transit?
  • Is there a safer option?

As a preventative measure, the Pea Ridge School District will continue to disinfect and deep clean our school buildings on a daily basis.  Special attention is being given to commonly used items such as cafeteria tables, water fountains, light switches, keyboards, and door handles.  Additionally, we are asking for all school patrons to utilize healthy hygiene habits while at school including frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has published recommended everyday actions to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.  Please assist Pea Ridge Schools by following the recommendations of the CDC provided below:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before eating, after going to the restroom, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

The CDC, as well as, state and local health officials are monitoring the situation closely and providing updates on a continual basis.  Pea Ridge Schools works closely with health officials, the Arkansas Department of Health, the Arkansas Department of Education DESE, and follows all recommended guidelines.  Additionally, the Pea Ridge School District is monitoring student and staff absences for continuity of education, trends due to illness, and the effectiveness of preventative measures.

Please continue to check the district website for updates. We are doing everything we can to care for your students. Please remember rumors can cause unnecessary reactions and panic. We encourage you to get your information from credible sources such as the Arkansas Department of Health. Your partnership during this time is critical for the success of our students.
